叙利亚：巴沙尔获95.1%得票连任新的7年任期
Syria’s parliamentary speaker announced that President Bashar al-Assad won a fourth term in office with 95.1 percent of the votes on Thursday, following an election criticised by the opposition and Western nations.
According to the Syrian government, the elections show that the country is functioning normally, despite a decade-long civil war. Some 14.2 million people, which Speaker Hammouda Sabbag said make up 76.64 percent of the population, cast their vote in the second election since the start of the conflict in 2011.
The Assad regime has taken back control of 70 percent of the country, as the war that has claimed more than 388,000 lives continues.
In the last election in 2014, Assad won with 88 percent of the vote. This vote extended his rule until 2028.
Kurdish areas in the north of the country, supported by the US, boycotted the election. The US and European allies said in a statement that the elections would be neither "free nor fair."
Assad ran against two obscure opponents, former deputy cabinet minister Abdallah Saloum Abdallah and Mahmoud Ahmed Marei. Marei got 3.3 percent of the vote, while Saloum received 1.5 percent.
