On 4th August, participants in a large-scale demonstration calling for Prime Minister Hasina's resignation clashed with police, leaving nearly 100 people dead.

Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced in a television address that Hasina would leave the country and that an interim government would be established in the future. According to local reports, Hasina flew to India in a military helicopter.

现在恰恰算是军队彻底接管政府，宣布全国完全宵禁，对闹市学生继续进行强力镇压，完全废除民选政府。

孟加拉的政治结构跟巴基斯坦十分相似，且建国法理也在于军队对巴基斯坦的胜利。军队的既得利益就来自于孟加拉独立战争，这次学生反抗的特权也来源于此。
