Employees of the company that manages the city’s water and sewer network tried to repair the damage overnight, but due to “the large volume of wastewater entering the sump, this was not possible,” the website wrote.

Almost 200,000 residents are left without water, and a state of emergency has been declared in the city. Most schools and kindergartens have suspended classes.

According to the newspaper Kommersant, the repairs were complicated by the fact that neither the authorities nor the companies had reliable project and report documentation of the sewage system at their disposal. The governor of the Volgograd region, Andrey Bocharov, later admitted that the sewage system was outdated and did not meet current requirements.

“How many other such places there are, I will not tell you today. Unfortunately, I’m not sure,” added Bočarov afterwards.

People in the affected area are now waiting in long queues in front of water tankers. Some, tired of waiting in long queues, put buckets under the gutter pipes. However, in comments on the Telegram social network, other people drew attention to the fact that drinking this water without boiling or filtering it could be dangerous. One of the women added that there are also worms in the water.
