Ukraine's situation in the war with Russia will not be hopeless, even if the US halts its aid. Russia faces equipment shortages, said the former NATO commander General Sir Richard Shirreff in an interview with the Times Radio.
北约前司令官Richard Shirreff爵士（2011-2014年任北约联合军副司令官）将军告诉时代电台，即使美国停止援助，乌克兰在对俄战争中也并非毫无希望。俄国正面临装备短缺。
Shirreff explained that Russia's military capability continues to be depleted. Russia is "really, really strapped" for military equipment and is resorting to using "civilian vans, golf buggies, and even donkeys" to sustain its war efforts.

At the same time, he emphasized that a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia will only happen if Moscow is forced into it.

"Russia has already made it clear that it is not going to back down on any of its aims,” which are the “annexation of four Ukrainian provinces and the permanent neutralization of the rest of the country," Shirreff recalled.

In his view, Europe "cannot in any way count on America as an ally" in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

我還是處謹慎態度。俄國工業已經戰時化，能夠有很多武器裝備，而整個西歐的國防能力是很堪憂的。本來以為90年代以後的戰爭是海灣戰爭這種科技是主要因素，數量是次要的，誰曉得這一次打成了俄國內戰的那種火砲和戰壕戰（以及一部分的坦克戰），雖然信息和技術也很重要，但是落伍武器的重要性在過去50年也是從來沒有見過的重要。
俄國目前已經把那些偏遠地區的小孩扔過去了，不管他們死活，但是大城市的是肯定捨不得的。烏克蘭目前還是在主要使用25歲以上的，但是我覺得如果戰爭開始到使用18-24歲的這些年輕人的話是一種殺雞取卵的方法。
雖然說現在俄國經濟的確很絕望，但是俄國人又是著名得能吃苦，所以我也不曉得裡崩潰還有多遠。從我能夠觀察到的地方來看，我覺得按照俄國內戰打完連褲子都穿不起的情況來說，還是有些遙遠（但是我覺得按照現在的經濟條件，應該在打仗到沒褲子之前很久就會崩潰了）
