Behind me stands a wall that encircles the free sectors of this city, part of a vast system of barriers that divides the entire continent of Europe. . . . 列根在演说中的尾声说道：“不久之前，我从国会大厦──德国统一的体现──观望，看见围墙上以喷漆粗糙写的字──也许是一位年轻的柏林人写的，‘这堵墙会倒下。信念可成真。’对，这堵墙会在欧洲倒下；因为它抵挡不了信心，它抵挡不了真理，这堵墙抵挡不了自由。”[8]
